Semen Gresik Targets Gold for Green Label Certification
Rembang, October 26, 2020 - PT Semen Gresik (SG) is targeting the achievement of the gold level in the process of green label product certification with international standards. Semen Gresik System Management Officer Nurhadi said that currently, the need for green label certified cement products is increasing due to the depletion of conventional raw materials and irreplaceable fuels (fossil). So, green-labeled cement having international standard quality is needed to fulfill the need.
Nurhadi continued, to achieve this, his party will continue to strive to meet all the target points from the 14 assessment criteria in order to achieve the gold level, namely: product information, raw materials, product quality, alternative raw materials, heavy metals, energy management, alternative fuels, environmental management systems, CO2 emissions, other air emissions, solid and hazardous and toxic materials (B3) waste management, water consumption, packaging materials, as well as packaging and marking.
As part of PT Semen Indonesia Group (SIG), the current verification value of Semen Gresik has reached 94.6% for the requirements of GLI-01-10-SP-2709-2019 version 1.0 based on an assessment conducted by a recognized global certification body with international standards. In addition, SG has also made achievements in the form of a green industry award of level 5 or the highest from the Ministry of Industry and green certification from the Certification Institute of the Center for Material and Technical Products (B4T) despite its young age.
"This is due to good teamwork from all functions at Semen Gresik and full support from management," said Nurhadi in a press release, Monday (26/10).
He continued, the urgency for a green-labeled product certificate for Semen Gresik, among others, is to support government programs as committed by the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the G-20 of Pittsburgh and COP15 agreements to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26 percent. Then, to support the road map from the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) regarding CO2 reduction in the industrial sector and Regulation of the Minister of Industry Number 12/M-IND/PER/1/2012 of 2012 concerning the Road Map for CO2 Emission Reduction of Cement Industry in Indonesia.
The presence of green-certified cement products also makes it easier for consumers and professionals to choose green products that are eco-friendly and participate in efforts to create a better life. So far, SG products that have been registered for green certification are Portland Composite Bulk cement with the Power Pro brand and Gresik Cement brand of 40kg and 50kg packaging.
"The market for green-certified products continues to grow and is increasing. To fulfill this, the owners, users, consultants, and developers choose and want the green-certified products," said Nurhadi.
